The Permanent Secretary in the Vice President’s Office, Dr. Richard Muyungi, has pledged full institutional support and incentives to the Office’s netball team as it competes in the ongoing 2026 Union Netball League in Zanzibar.
The message was delivered on Saturday, 17 January 2026, in Zanzibar by the Assistant Director in the Union Affairs Department at the Vice President’s Office (Union and Environment), Ms. Hanifa Selengu, who addressed the players on behalf of the Permanent Secretary and the Office’s management.
Ms. Selengu said the Vice President’s Office had deliberately created an enabling environment to ensure the team continues to perform strongly in the highly competitive league.
“I am here to convey greetings from the Permanent Secretary of the Vice President’s Office. He, together with the entire management, congratulates you for the commitment and determination you have shown in this competition, which has already translated into positive results,” she told the players.
She added that the Office had invested both financial and logistical resources to support the team, including improving camp conditions to boost players’ morale, focus and physical preparedness ahead of the remaining fixtures.

According to Ms. Selengu, the management has also lined up a range of incentives to motivate the squad, including substantial rewards should the team progress to the quarter-finals of the tournament.
The 2026 Union Netball League has attracted 11 teams, with six from Mainland Tanzania and five from Zanzibar, underlining the competition’s growing profile as a key platform for women’s netball development in the country. The defending champions are Kikosi cha Valantia Zanzibar (KVZ).
Teams competing in this year’s edition include the Vice President’s Office (Union and Environment), Ministry of Health–Zanzibar, Arusha Institute of Accountancy (IAA), Dodoma City, Police Arusha, TAMISEMI, Kikosi cha Valantia Zanzibar (KVZ), Fire and Rescue (Zimamoto), JKT Mbweni, JKU, and Immigration.
On the court, the Vice President’s Office netball team has made a promising start. The side has played three matches so far, recording two wins and one defeat, the latter coming in the opening game against defending champions KVZ. With morale high, institutional backing secured and incentives on the table, the team will be aiming to build on its early momentum and mount a serious challenge as the race to the knockout stages of the Union League intensifies.
