The Netball team of the Office of the Vice President (Union and Environment) has continued its impressive winning run in the ongoing Union Netball League, currently being played at the Amani Complex in Zanzibar.

On January 21, 2026, the Vice President’s Office team delivered a commanding performance, defeating the National Service (JKT) team 45–34 in a game they dominated in all departments.

Speaking after the match, team player Ms. Anna Akwilini attributed the team’s success to discipline, teamwork and commitment among the players. She said the technical bench, led by the coach, has been instrumental in correcting minor mistakes, while strong support from fans in the stands has boosted the players’ confidence and motivation in every match.

Akwilini noted that the team is determined to maintain its strong form in the remaining fixtures in order to secure consistent victories and ultimately clinch the league title, which has seen intense competition from all participating teams.

She added that the Office plans to strengthen the squad further through player recruitment during the Mainland Tanzania league season, with the aim of performing even better in future Union competitions.

Head coach Mr. Mafuru Buriro described the encounter against JKT as a tough match, noting that JKT is a well-established team with extensive experience of playing and training together. However, he said his team relied on the players’ experience, resilience and determination to secure the win and position themselves strongly for the remaining matches.

The Union Netball League, which kicked off on January 15, features 11 teams – six from Mainland Tanzania and five from Zanzibar – and is scheduled to conclude on January 24, 2026. Teams competing in the league include the Office of the Vice President, JKT, JKU, Mafunzo, the Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA), Kikosi cha Valantia Zanzibar (KVZ), Police Arusha, Dodoma City, Fire and Rescue Force, and Immigration.
