The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is set to intensify the promotion of new tourism products on the global market following Tanzania’s latest recognition at the World Travel Awards (WTA), where the country was named the world’s leading Safari destination for 2025.
Senior Assistant Commissioner for Tourism Services, Mariam Kobelo – who is currently in Bahrain for the awards ceremony – said the accolade has created fresh momentum for Tanzania to showcase emerging attractions within Ngorongoro, especially as the tourism sector continues to grow.
Tanzania received the prestigious award during the 32nd edition of the WTA gala, held on 6 December 2025 at the Exhibition World Centre in Bahrain.
Speaking after the event, Commissioner Kobelo said the award reinforces the need for Tanzania, and particularly the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, to upgrade tourism infrastructure and promote a wider range of products. These include the Ngorongoro–Lengai Geopark museum tourism experience, Olduvai Gorge, and various cultural heritage sites, all of which hold strong potential for global competition.
“Tanzania is a safe destination with a wealth of attractions that must be marketed more aggressively internationally. This will help us welcome more visitors, increase national revenue and build on the positive outcomes generated by films such as The Royal Tour and Amazing Tanzania,” she said. The country is also preparing to host the World Travel Awards in 2026, an event expected to attract tourism stakeholders from around the world and further cement Tanzania’s position as one of Africa’s leading travel destinations.
